What is Form of Appointment?
​
An agreement is a written document between the designer (practice) and the client which the
law will enforce. The designer agrees to provide the client services in return for an exchange of
payment (consideration). ARB Code of Conduct Standard 4.4 states that architects are expected
to enter into a written agreement with the client which covers the work scope and the fee or
method of calculating it.
The agreement is a crucial document for the architects to protect themselves since it is the
principal legal document to refer to in the event of potential dispute. In the agreement, essential
issues to be covered should include contract parties, financial matters, scope of services,
liabilities, PI insurance, alternative dispute resolution, termination, sub-consultation, and additional
information.
